Healing Benefits of Massage

Everyone knows that getting a massage is a great way to relax and unwind. But did you know that getting a massage may have hundreds, if not thousands of therapeutic and healing benefits?

Having our muscles kneaded and limbs stretched and moved feels so good, and we can feel the positive effects hours, days and even weeks later.  We feel lighter, taller, sleep better, smile more, get angry less, have more energy, hurt less, move better, work better, love ourselves and others more.

If you feel like you need a better reason than relaxation to book a massage, here are some:

Massage may reduce: blood pressure, stress, low back pain, anxiety, fibromyalgia pain, tension or migraine headache pain and frequency, symptoms of depression, pain of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome, chemotherapy related nausea, menstrual discomfort, chronic neck pain, nerve pain and joint replacement pain.

Massage may increase: sleep, digestion, mental clarity,  cardiovascular health, skin health, organ health, balance in older adults, range of motion in all ages, quality of life, ability to deal with stress, hormonal balance, energetic balance, self-esteem, exercise performance and longevity.

There are truly too many benefits of massage to list them all here and we are still learning new and wonderful ways that massage can effect positive healing changes to our bodies.

Sometimes a client will share, “I feel good, no pain or discomfort, I just want a massage.” I tell them that that is a great time to get a massage! We don’t really need a reason. We humans thrive on physical human contact and it is no wonder considering all of the healing benefits of touch – seen and unseen.
